WELCOME MESSAGE FROM RSTA PRESIDENT SUSIE HALL

SuspicAs schools return, there will be many of you who have taken the decision to retire this year.  No doubt you are breathing a great sigh of relief at not having to be ruled by the tyranny of the bell and the endless mounds of corrections!  I would like to congratulate you all and wish you great joy and above all, good health for a long and happy retirement.  You have certainly earned it.  On behalf of the members of the RSTA, I warmly welcome you into our association where you will hopefully make new friends and perhaps even meet up with those friends who retired before you.

If you are aware of others who have recently retired, do, please, encourage them to join us.  We have 18 branches all around the country and you are welcome to join the branch  that is most convenient to where you live.  Branches organise outings, talks and activities of all sorts during the year and most branches will have a festive Christmas lunch, details of which will be posted on this website.  Many branches organise trips abroad and welcome RSTA members from other branches to join them.

But apart from the social side, the RSTA engages in an active programme of advocacy on behalf of its members.  Our officers meet on an annual basis with the officers of the ASTI, which is committed to maintaining our pension parity.  This recently enabled us to benefit from inclusion in the small increases we gained under the Sustaining Momentum pay agreement.  We do not have access to pay talks but are actively campaigning for this.  In the meantime, we are deeply grateful to the ASTI which is committed to keeping parity central to all future pay talks.  Our Newsletters, which go to every member, will give you further information as to what the RSTA is about and in this regard we recommend that you read our Anniversary Newsletter available at the link below:

So again, I will wish you all good health and a long life to get back all the pension payments you made whilst you were teaching.  You have earned every cent!
